Create these simple heart animals by cutting many hearts out of construction paper, large, small, pink and red. Allow the children to create any animal they wish by using the hearts and glueing them onto yellow or white construction paper. Add googly eyes and draw on antennaes etc...
Make this "door" display by cutting out a large heart from pink poster board and attaching "muffin" paper liners onto the heart. (like a big box of chocolates) Add the children's pictures in the middle of each muffin cup. Add lace to edges to frill it up. You can write "Our Sweeties" at the top.
Make this cute heart person by cutting out several hearts large and small and folding paper accordian style and put together with glue. Add eyes etc with a marker.
Grab a paper plate,red paint and a googly eye to put together this fish. Cut out a triangle from the plate and use it for the tail.
February Check-In Board
Help children recognize their names by having a check-in board. I change mine each month. This on is made from white poster board. I drew a mailbox,colored it then added magnet strips (we have 18 students so I put 18 strips on the board. Use hearts (store bought or made from posterbard) laminate and add magnetic strips to the back to connect to the board. The children move their name from the "big" heart (also made from poster board, see picture below) to the mailbox as they arrive each morning. On a
sentence strip write "Look Who's Here Today" and put above the boards.
Edible Valentine Craft
Make this cute edible craft by covering the top of a caramel rice cake with pink icing (mix white icing with pink food coloring)
and add fruit shaped candies for eyes, nose
How Many Hearts Do You Have?
Use coversation hearts to make this graph. Give each child a mini bag or two and let them graph by color. Make a big graph on posterboard to see which color is the most popular!
Have the children crate their own Valentine Box at home. Send the following note home with their parents:
With Valentine's Day quickly approaching we would like for you and your child to create a special Valentine Box to hold their Valentine's in. They will be displayed in the classroom. We hope that you will enjoy this time with your child creating their own special box. You may use any items you wish to create the box, some suggestions are an old shoe box or an empty kleenex box. Have fun and use your imagination!
Fold a piece of red paper in half and trace one of the Child's hands. Cut out, punch a hole on the bottom and tie a long ribbon through the holes as shown. Fold a piece of white construction paper in half and insert the following poem inside:
A Valentine Hug To You
Wrap these hands around you,
whenever I'm away.
So you can have a hug
from me,anytime of day.
**Print poem ahead
of time. Have children decorate the outside of the card and insert the hands
Valentine Bead Heart
Thread beads onto a pipe cleaner and shape like a
heart! Easy and makes a great gift!
Fill a plastic vase with conversation hearts (all purchased from the dollar store). Insert two "sugar stix" on each side to represent the straws. Use a glue gun to add the marshmallow hearts and flowers (purchased from CVS). Add a "jelly" red heart (from dollar tree).
